Department of Shalakya Tantra

Shalakya Tantra is a unique branch of Ayurveda that focuses on the etiology, diagnosis, prognosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases related to the eyes, nose, ears, throat, oral cavity, head, and scalp. This department offers training and teaching modules in ophthalmology, oto-rhinolaryngology, and dentistry.

Faculty

The Department of Shalakya Tantra operates smoothly under the supervision of well-qualified and experienced Professor Dr. D. K. Sahu (HOD) and Assistant Professor Dr. Nisha. The department also has paramedical staff to perform various procedures.

Features

  • The department has OPD (Outpatient Department), inpatient beds, a Kriyakalpa (Procedures) Unit, and a separate minor O.T. room.

  • To facilitate effective teaching, the department has 65+ attractive charts, 5 models, and 30+ departmental books.

  • It provides treatment for refractive errors, cataracts, glaucoma, various retinopathies, tinnitus, migraines, squint, sinusitis, and many other conditions.

  • Additionally, the department offers traditional Ayurvedic procedures like Akshitarpan, Nasya, Karnapooran, Dhumpan, Karnadhupan, Seka, and Ashchyotan to treat different E-ENT diseases.

Special Features

  • The department is equipped with modern instruments such as an auto-refractometer, slit-lamp biomicroscope, direct ophthalmoscope, and other minor diagnostic tools to aid in diagnosis and treatment.

  • Proper monitoring and care are provided for admitted patients.

  • Highly effective procedures like Tarpan, Nasya, and Karnapuran are performed to restore vision and treat conditions like dry eye, chronic conjunctivitis, migraines, hearing impairment, and sinusitis.
